c.  Fertilizers and Agricultural Chemicals

                                            The size of the soybean plantation area is a good indicator of the
                                            amount of fertilizers and chemicals used in the country. There is
                                            one organization called “Union de Cooperativas” (UNICOOP),
                                            composed of 9 coops, that uses most the agricultural related
                                            imports.

                                               The amount of fertilizers needed per  hectare of soybean is about
                                         300 kilos equaling about 1,000,000 tons. It is reported that the total
                                         amount of imported fertilizers and chemicals was over one million
                                         tons in that year.

                                     d.  Imports Projection

                                         Import products such as fuel, electronics, chemicals, machinery,
                                         vehicles, appliances, electrical related goods, are of high value.

                                         Due to the increase in the local production as well as an increase
                                         in the local purchase power, imports will continue to grow in the
                                         foreseeable future.

                                         The following figure and table are taken from the “Plan Maestro de

                                         2031”  by  the  Ministry  of  Public  Works  and  Communications,  and
                                         the Inter-American Development Bank.
