c. Fertilizers and Agricultural Chemicals
The size of the soybean plantation area is a good indicator of the
amount of fertilizers and chemicals used in the country. There is
one organization called “Union de Cooperativas” (UNICOOP),
composed of 9 coops, that uses most the agricultural related
imports.

The amount of fertilizers needed per hectare of soybean is about
300 kilos equaling about 1,000,000 tons. It is reported that the total
amount of imported fertilizers and chemicals was over one million
tons in that year.
d. Imports Projection
Import products such as fuel, electronics, chemicals, machinery,
vehicles, appliances, electrical related goods, are of high value.
Due to the increase in the local production as well as an increase
in the local purchase power, imports will continue to grow in the
foreseeable future.
The following figure and table are taken from the “Plan Maestro de
Infraestructura y Servicios de Transporte del Paraguay 2011 -
2031” by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications, and
the Inter-American Development Bank.
