Exports have increased considerably in the last 5 years, from 10
million to 20 million tons. It is expected to increase another 10
million in the next 5 years. Most of the exports are grains of which
approximately 70% is soybean. The other important export product
is high quality meat.
The following table and figure are from the “Plan Maestro de
Infraestructura y Servicios de Transporte del Paraguay 2011 -
2031” prepared by the Ministry of Public Works and
Communications, and the Inter-American Development Bank.

Per the mentioned report, the tonnage is projected to increase by
two-fold from 2016 to 2021, from 15 million to 30 million, and 60
million by 2030.
6. Present Logistics Waterways
A. Grain Exports Logistics
Grains are produced mainly along the Parana River as well as in the north
of the Eastern Region. Of the total production, over 90% is exported via
the Parana and Paraguay Rivers to ports on the Rio de la Plata. Of that,
30% is transported by the Parana and over 60% by the Paraguay. The total
