B.  Transportation Flow in the Country

                                 To  understand  river  transportation  in  the  country,  it  is  important  to
                                 understand  the  local  infrastructure.  Asuncion  is  the  exit  for  the
                                 overwhelming  majority  of  the  exports  and  will  continue  to  be  so  for  the
                                 foreseeable  future.  The  reason  is  that  all  the  main  roads  in  the  country
                                 converge  there.  The  following  figure  called  the  “Soybean  Road,”  is  the
                                 road for everything else, import and exports.

                                 It  is  estimated  that  75%  of  all  exports  exit  and  over  90%  of  the  imports
                                 enter the country though ports located in Grand Asuncion.

                                 At present,  of the 70%  of the grain produced, 60% is exported  via ports
                                 located  in  Villeta;  the  other  30%  is  exported  via  the  Parana  River.  The
                                 following figure shows the internal flow as well as the exit of soybean.
