Recreating images
It was a lovely day in October and
Edinburgh was looking good. I love
Greyfriars Cemetery and always try to
pay a visit there. The School was looking
great through the arch and I happened
to have my trusty Leica film camera
with me (old school, if you'll pardon
the pun).
As a former professional photographer,
I took the opportunity of making an
image that pays tribute to Hill and
Adamson, the great pioneering
Edinburgh photographers of the mid
nineteenth century. Here are the two
images by way of comparison; one
taken in 1854, the other in 2020. Apart
from the dress and plastic cups, "Plus ca
change, plus c'est la meme chose!”, as
Mr Jamie would have said.

Staff parties
I came across these old photographs of some Heriot's
staff at a social event and thought FPs might be
interested.
I have no idea what the event was - perhaps someone's
retiral, but as George Blamire looms large I think they
must date from the mid to late 1950's - when did George
leave to go to Watson's?
If I have the names right the photo top left has:
L L Mitchell (L) and George Blamire (R) in the front, Archie
Campbell on his feet (perhaps it was his retirement) and
Norman J Abercrombie seated on Archie's right.
The photo top right has: L L Mitchell in the front with Tom
Dennis standing; bottom left is (L to R) Bill Brow, Tom
Dennis, Norman Abercrombie and Archie Campbell with
L L Mitchell in the front and bottom right has Tony
Welton (L) with D Middlemass sated slightly behind him.
