as being the offspring of JAMES and his two wives and through each of these
children the FOY family tree has spread. A great deal of research has been done
concerning each of JAMES’ children. Much of that information will be
discussed in later pages of this book and, hopefully, much more will be learned
               and subsequently reported.

I first found mention of LEWIS FOY, the son of JAMES FOY, SR and
connected to the Cisco Clan, in the research done by ELOUISE BEARD SMITH,
whom I have mentioned before. ELOUISE had linked LEWIS to BENJAMIN
FRANKLIN FOY, a man who had come from Georgia to Texas to fight in the
Mexican War in the mid 1800s. After that war BENJAMIN returned to Georgia
for a short time, then returned to Louisiana where he began his family. He
married three times and had several children, one of whom was JOHN ELON
FOY. We will be talking about both BENJAMIN and JOHN ELON in later
               chapters.

ELOUISE had very basic information regarding LEWIS. For example she had
found some census records for LEWIS in the 1850 US Census for Meriwether
County, Georgia. The entry is found on page 313R. This entry lists limited
information. Basically it indicates four people living at the location: 1) LEWIS
FOY, male, age 61, farmer, born in North Carolina, real estate worth 1200; 2)
               B. FOY, female, age 65, born in North Carolina; 3) R. FOY,male, age 24,
farmer, born in Georgia; 4) G.A. FOY, female, age 18, born in Georgia.

ELOUISE had determined the R. FOY listed in the 1850 census records referred
to ROBERT FOY. We will be discussing this ROBERT FOY, the brother of
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FOY, a little later on.

The initial B noted in that 1850 census record was the only information either
ELOUISE or I could find regarding the wife of LEWIS for many years but it
was clear to ELOUISE and I that LEWIS FOY was the father of BENJAMIN
FRANKLIN FOY who was the father of JOHN ELON FOY, the patriarch of the
CISCO CLAN, and was also the father of ROBERT HENRY FOY.

Historically the first mention of LEWIS FOY seems to be in the 1817 will of
JAMES FOY, SR. JAMES’ complete will can be found in the chapter on
JAMES in this book. Regarding LEWIS, JAMES states In his will:
