It will be recalled that in the 1820 census a LEWIS FOY is mentioned as living
in New Hanover County, N.C. New Hanover County is South of Jones County
and is the county in which JAMES FOY, JR and other members of the JAMES
FOY, SR family settled in the early 1800s.
In the records of New Hanover County there is a deed dated March 17, 1824
wherein LEWIS FOY witnessed the sale of land to HENRY R. FOY by JOHN
GRIFFIN. We will run across the name HENRY FOY later as a member of the
JAMES FOY, SR family.
It will also be recalled that the 1830 census for Bibb County, Georgia lists a
LEWIS FOY, born in North Carolina, as the head of the family in that county.
We have already seen that our LEWIS FOY lived in Bibb County, GA when he
won land in Lee County, GA in a lottery.
In the Bibb County, GA records one finds the following items which mention
LEWIS FOY:
On October 26, 1826 JOHN KEENER sold land in Bibb County to LEWIS FOY.
On May 29, 1827 CHARLES BULLOCK sold land in Bibb County to LEWIS
FOY.
On September 21, 1830 LEWIS FOY bought land in Bibb County which had
been seized by the tax collector from one WILLIAM H. HALL.
Now, this is not the kind of evidence one presents in a court of law but it is the
kind of information a geneologist uses in their research to establish family
members; i.e., where a person lives and with whom he associates.
The records we discussed above relate to a LEWIS FOY who associated with
other members of the JAMES FOY, SR family. He lived in counties where other
members of the JAMES FOY, SR lived. He bought and sold land from members
of the JAMES FOY, SR family. He wound up in the state of Georgia and had a
son named BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FOY the father of the Cisco Clan
patriarch, JOHN ELON FOY.
