FIVE ARCHAISTIC JADE BEADS
Late Qing Dynasty
Carved with simple strokes to depict a standing figure wearing an
official hat and long robe, his hands in front and concealed under long
sleeves, the long beard finely detailed with incised lines, horizontally
perforated through the center for stringing, the stone slightly degraded
and mottled in various shades of brown; the bead of barrel-form
with thick walls, carved with a chi dragon in low relief, the pale stone
stained dark brown and black in areas; the flattened rectangular
bead carved with a chi dragon in low relief, the stone stained orange-
brown throughout; the tubular bead finely carved with a chi dragon in
low relief, the white stone dyed black on one side; the cong-shaped
cylinder with six levels of square corners decorated with circular
indents, the stone with natural inclusions and stained black in areas. (5)
Wengzhong: 3 1/16in (7.8cm) high;
beads: 1in to 2 5/16in (2.5cm to 6cm) long
