TWO CIZHOU-TYPE BLACK-GLAZED RIBBED JARS
12th century
The first of globular form with a short straight neck and wide mouth,
flanked by loop handles, the body decorated with eight sets of five
narrowly spaced vertical ribs covered with white slip against the black
glaze with brown spots; the second of compressed globular form,
surmounted by a gently flaring neck with wide mouth, flanked by small
loop handles, the body decorated with vertical ribs covered with white
slip against the black glaze; the glaze on each stopping just above the
base to reveal the buff-colored body.
