a knowledge of the truth” (II Tim 2:4). The TRUTH is that Christians
are saved, but most of them go to their graves, never coming into a
revelation of the truth of the gospel.
Paul says the gospel is the power of God because it contains
the revelation of our righteousness in Christ through faith (Rom
1:16-17). He’s not only talking about our ETERNAL righteousness,
but rather our EARTHLY righteousness in the here and now.
Thus in II Timothy 1:10 Paul says Jesus came to abolish death,
and brings us abundant life on earth and eternal life forever. He says
this is revealed to us through the light of the gospel. Satan knows we
will not come into a revelation of the GOSPEL as long as our noses
are buried in the LAW, and as long as we are totally SIN-conscious.
Remember Paul says the law strengthens sin (I Cor 15:56).
Jesus abolished the law — and He abolished sin — on His
cross, as the means by which we relate to God. Thus John can say
that we CANNOT sin, because we are born of God.
Our Biggest Problem
We simply don’t believe God. We don’t believe God’s word.
We are apparently much more comfortable with what Paul calls ‘the
preaching and wisdom of man,’ than we are with the truth of God.
