Example dealing with lack of adequate funding:
Cause
Funders for the organization do not have a clear concept of the
mission of the organization.
Actions
• Conduct a workshop or retreat for the funders and
stakeholders with respect to economic development trends and
the activity of the organization.
• Review the mission of the organization with the Board and key
stakeholders and receive feedback from them that they
understand the purpose and needs of the organization.
• Prepare a report for the funders and stakeholders
demonstrating the impact of the programs of the organization
on the local economy.
These solutions or actions should be measurable and their successful
implementation should lead to the solution of the problem.
Step 4: Evaluation of Actions
It is important to remember that every alternative action for a particular
problem is not necessarily an option to take. It only becomes an option
when it becomes a real possibility for action and it would lead to a solution
or partial solution to the problem. This involves determining which
alternatives are most cost-effective and beneficial for solving the problem.
To that end, it is often useful to move through a process in which the
actions are assigned weights or priorities. The basis for the weighting
should be how effectively the action is likely to address the cause or causes
of the problem and how cost-effective it will be.
