SESSION 1 : Who is This Shepherd-King?
there is something else that I believe is very important: when we come
to the Lord’s table, we must be aware that the enemy is lurking and will
try to prevent us from receiving the nourishment that God has for us.
He does this by whispering negative thoughts into our ears. It can take
the form of condemnation, accusation, or judgment of others. When
this occurs, we must respond quickly by shutting our minds to this
darkness and renouncing such things, as they will hinder the flow of
grace and blessing.
Let us learn to be alert in the Spirit and not allow anything outside of
the Kingdom realm to steal from our table.
The third interpretation I would like to mention came as I was led to
watch a clip from the film musical Oliver. Oliver was in the orphanage
with several other children, and they had been given a paltry dish of
gruel, while at the top table was a rich supply of tasty food fit for a king.
Oliver stood up in the presence of the stern, cold-hearted, greedy staff
members and dared to ask for more. Yes—chaos followed, as they were
appalled at what they considered to be rebelliousness and insolence.
However, this daring act ultimately opened the door for him to discover
his true identity and family.
Similarly, a table is laid before us with every spiritual blessing in Christ
Jesus, but the enemies of God and His people are also there. They
influence our minds with doubts, lies, and fear, so that we remain too
afraid to step out in faith and receive all that God has for us.
