THE LIFE OF A TEENAGE GIRL
“Well, it’s not funny! I thought you weren’t ready for school.”
“Well… like you said, it’s gonna be fine—and it was.”
Faye saw us talking and asked, “Who’s that?”
“Uh, this is my friend,” I said, turning to Faye.
“Really? ‘Friend’?” Alexa said, then walked out.
What did I even do?
When school ended, I tried calling Dad to come pick us up, but he
wasn’t available—he was out shopping. So I called Mom and waited
for her.
While we were waiting, I saw Alexa sitting on the school stairs
outside, frowning.
I sat next to her and asked, “What’s wrong now?”
She muttered, “Nothing.”
“I know something’s wrong. C’mon, tell me.”
“You.” She swallowed hard.
“Huh?”
“You’re the problem.”
“Wha—what did I do?” I leaned back a bit.
Alexa slowly looked up at me with a spiteful face. “Friend? Am I
actually your friend?”
“Uh, yeah? Aren’t you?”
“We’re best friends, Gigi! Not friends.”
“Oh, is this about—look, I’m so sorry about that. I didn’t mean it.”
