               9.  Sabbatical  Leave  –  a  faculty  member  who  is  granted  leave  with  full  pay  to  undertake
                   scholarly activities like writing a book/manual, research, development projects and the
                   like  for  the  purpose  of  contributing  to  the  improvement  of  instruction,  research,
                   extension and production.

               10.  Staff  Development  –  refers  to  the  improvement  on,  and  the  upgrading,  of  the
                     qualifications  and  competence of the  university  personnel, both teaching  and non-
                     teaching,  through  higher  degrees,  trainings,  seminars,  conferences,  workshops,
                     sabbatical/post-doctoral undertakings and related activities.

               11. Study Leave – is a time off from work not exceeding six (6) months with pay for  the purpose
                   of assisting qualified officials and employees to prepare for their bar or board examinations
                   or to complete advanced  degree  (master’s  and  doctorate  degree).  The leave shall be
                   covered  by  a  contract  between  the  beneficiary  thereof  and  the  agency  head  or  his
                   representative.

               12. Study  without  leave  –  taking  a  higher  degree  after  official  working  hours  usually  on
                   weekends or evenings while working full time.

               13. Terminal Degree – a discipline which has no higher degree offered.

               14. University Scholar – a University personnel who is pursuing a verticalized degree and
                     granted a full time study leave with pay and receives other scholarship benefits such
                     as free tuition fees, miscellaneous fees, monthly stipend, book allowance, and thesis or
                     dissertation  assistance,  and  enrolled  at  prestigious  universities/colleges  whose
                     program/s is a COD and COE or Level II accredited.


               COMPOSITION  AND  FUNCTIONS  OF  THE  UNIVERSITY  STAFF  DEVELOPMENT
               BOARD (USDB) AND THE CAMPUS STAFF DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE (CSDC)

               University Staff Development Board (USDB)

               University Staff Development Board (USDB) shall be composed of the following:

                   ➢  Chairman – Vice President for Academic & Related Affairs
                   ➢  Vice-Chair – Vice-President for Administration & Finance Services
                   ➢  Members:
                       - Pres. of CSC Accredited Faculty Association
                       - Campus Executive Director – where the grant/scholarship occurs
                       - Department Chair or Unit Head where the field of grant/scholarship/training
                            occurs
                       - University HRMO as Secretary
