NYAA Gold Award Ceremony In Prison


            For the first time, 81 young offenders from Singapore
            Prisons received their NYAA Gold Awards in October
            2020  from  President  Halimah  Yacob  held  at  Tanah
            Merah Prison. Among the recipients was Mr Darren
            Tan, an ex-offender and an outstanding young lawyer
            in  Singapore.  He  was  honoured  with  an  Honorary
            NYAA  Gold  Award  for  his  excellent  leadership  and
            contributions to society. Mr Tan was an NYAA Bronze
            and  Silver  Award  holder  while  serving  time  at  Kaki
            Bukit  Prison  School.  Unfortunately,  he  could  not
            participate in the NYAA Gold Award because he was
            overage.


            After his release from prison, he completed his law            President Halimah Yacob
            degree  at  NUS  and  continued  serving  society.  The
            Singapore Business Review highlighted Darren Tan as
            one of Singapore’s 70 most influential lawyers aged
            40 and under in 2016. For his continued outstanding
            leadership  and  contributions  to  the  community,  Mr
            Tan was conferred an Honorary NYAA Gold Award by
            President Halimah Yacob in 2020.

            the whole ethos of the NYAA programme.”

                            Singapore’s Most Influential Lawyers Aged 40 And Under


            Mr  Kennedy  Chen,  a  partner  with  Harry  Elias
            Partnership  LLP  and  an  NYAA  Gold  Award  holder
            (2010  Cohort),  was  named  one  of  Singapore’s
            Most Influential Lawyers Aged 40 and Under by the
            Singapore Business Review.

            Mr  Chen  was  also  appointed  by  the  Singapore
            Ministry of Law to the Panel of Assessors for COVID-19
            Temporary  Relief  (PACT).  He  is  recognised  by  the
            International  Commercial  Mediation  Center  for  Belt
            and  Road  Initiative  (established  by  the  Beijing  PRC
            Law Society and Beijing Civil Affairs Municipal Bureau)
            as the only Singapore representative on its mediator
            panel.

            Mr Chen specialised in corporate restructuring, finance
            and commercial business advisory. He authored the
            Singapore Chapter for the People’s Republic of China              Mr Kennedy Chen
