Will the Real Christians Stand Up
“What is it, dear?” Mrs. Sanchez asked urgently. “Emilia,
are you having sharp pains in your stomach?
Emilia shook her head, yes.
Oh my gosh, Mrs. Sanchez said. Mom, what is it?” “Emil-
ia’s water has broken. It’s time to get you to the hospital, Mrs.
Sanchez said.
“Emilia, just continue to breathe the best way you can,”
Mrs. Sanchez said as she dashed to change her clothing.
“Emilia, can you walk?” Mr. Sanchez asked.
Emilia shook her head ‘no’ as tears streamed down her
face.
“Then there’s the possibility that I may have to pick you
up and take you to the car. Is that okay?” Mr. Sanchez asked.
Emilia shook her head, yes.
“Ladies, if you will, open the house door and one of the
back-seat car doors.”
Katey moved quickly to open the front door and the
back-car door. At Mr. Sanchez’s direction, Adriana found a
pillow to put in the back seat so Emilia could lay back and
prop her head up. “
“Okay, Emilia, are you ready?” Mr. Sanchez asked.
Emilia shook her head, yes. When the labor began, the
pain was more intense than anything Emilia had ever imag-
ined.
“Okay, on three. One, two, three.” Mr. Sanchez picked
Emilia up as she continued to cry tears of pain caused by back
to back contractions.
“Oops, sorry,” Mr. Sanchez said as he accidentally
bumped Emilia’s head while positioning her inside the back-
seat of Adriana’s car. “Emilia, just continue to breathe,” Mrs.
Sanchez said as she sat down in the passenger side of the car.
