Reversing on company and third party sites

Extreme caution will be used at all times during reversing on all sites keeping the vehicle
at a slow walking pace during the manoeuvre. Ensure that staff are made aware of your
intended start and finish point. Ensure that you are aware of the completed Risk
Assessment on PURGO which will advise you of any known site hazards.

                   Fires in compaction vehicles

If a fire is suspected in the load bay whilst driving you must as a professional
            driver make some quick decisions.

Stopping in certain areas could make the situation far worse for example if driving through
a forested area in the height of summer with the ground very dry may mean that the fire
could spread very quickly and put lives at risk. If safe to do so for you the driver then you
could continue out of that area and to a layby or industrial estate where there is more open
            space.

When you are moving in traffic, quite often this will keep the fire at a manageable level but
if you have to stop the fire can take hold very quickly so you need to be sure of your safety
and that of your crew are taken into consideration.

There can be no hard and fast rules here you will need to remain vigilant and try and
minimise as much as possible the damage to people and property.

If a fire is noticed call 999 and talk this through whilst driving with the emergency services
giving ideas or locations of where you could meet up.

            So consider the following:

                • Do not put yourself or others in danger

                • Call 999

                • Think of a safe place to meet the emergency services nearby and keep moving if you
                    can

                • Is it safe to stop?

                • If you have to abandon the vehicle please retreat to a safe area and report to your
Operations Manager immediately whilst awaiting the emergency services.
