                      • Carry out a visual inspection of the contents before lifting. It is not
recommended to rummage around in the contents.

                      • Beware that anyone intoxicated (i.e. under the influence of alcohol or drugs)

or injured may not respond to banging on the container.
                      • When looking in the container look for anything out of the ordinary e.g. full

carrier bags, rucksacks, luggage or quilts and blankets.

If any defects are found with the bin/container please ensure they are
reported to your Operations Manager and recorded on PurGo. Serious
defects that could cause injury should be reported to your Operations
Manager immediately so the bin can be exchanged and the customer
                advised.

Should you disagree with any of the Comments or Risk Assessments on PurGo then
please advise your Operations Manager by writing any useful safety information on
your Drivers Comments section on PurGo against the job concerned. This will then
be reviewed and you will be advised of any changes to be made to your procedures
                    or route.

What should I do if someone is found in a container?

                      1. Call your Operations Manager and report the incident immediately.

                      2. If the person is injured or not responsive then you or your Operations Manager
                         should call the emergency services.

                      3. Never restrain the person if they try to flee in case of violence or aggression
                      4. If safe to do so, help them out of the bin but if they refuse then do not force the

issue again, call your Operations Manager who will arrange for the emergency

                         services to attend.
                      5. Notify the customer of the incident and liaise with them to understand how and

                         why it happened.

                      6. An accident/incident investigation form will need to be completed by you and
your manager. This is not a disciplinary procedure, simply an information

gathering device to ensure that it does not happen again.
