The number of Persians (Salukis) that are in
England is considerable and they bear very
well a climate much harder, much more
humid than that of France. Have people not
tried Salukis races in England? What was
the timing?
It has been noted that these Salukis, which
are Sloughis, were faster than the
Greyhounds*.
Also, there won’t be in England, at least for
now, any Saluki races. One cannot show
that the national English dog has
adversaries worthy of him and even faster
than him. And the Saluki fanciers then have
turned to Coursing.
We had ourselves, and he won prizes in
days gone by, a black Greyhound coming
from the kennel of the Shah of Persia and
that had been given as a present to my late
father. The acclimatization period was
barely a month.

*Editor’s note: in those days the French thought of the Saluki as a kind of Sloughi, the British
thought that the Sloughi was a kind of Saluki. Modern DNA studies put these claims to rest,
showing the different genetic uniqueness of these 2 breeds.
