1. Lack of information on the virus

In vacuum of credible and reliable information, fake news flourishes.

Due to the nature of Novel Coronavirus (the initial designation of

COVID-19), nothing much was known about the virus. This created a

state of vacuum. The public wanted as much information about the

virus, but governments and health institutions didn’t provide any

                       information on the emerging virus.

What can the public do? They latched on to any news and information

on the World Wide Web. Whether or not an information is true is

secondary. The public got the answers, just not the correct ones. They

were left off to fend for themselves and let their imaginations run wild.

                   2. Lack of public trust in governments

Public trust in governments was at an all-time low. It is a global

phenomenon attributed to the local and international political

conditions. When there is a strong resentment and distrust towards the

government, policies concerning public health will be difficult to

                       implement.

                   3. Algorithms

Social media platforms use algorithms to determine contents that a
user will consume. A particular content will target a particular target

audience. What a user consumes is determined by the user’s habit
and preferences mined from their internet activities. A user consumes
