what they are interested to see or read. A person sees what they
WANT to see, not what they NEED to see.
For example, a person is fascinated with conspiracies on vaccines,
and it’s use to “control population”. They search for it on social media
and is taken to conspiracy theories groups and social media content.
The algorithm will decide that “vaccine conspiracies” is the person’s
interest and will push contents with the same themes to the users –
regardless whether it is fake news or not. The user will then fall into a
rabbit hole and be overwhelmed with stories of “vaccine
conspiracies”.
It is imperative that infodemic be handled tactfully. It involves the following
interdisciplinary approach:
1. Social listening to understand the public’s concern and misinformation
2. Deliver high quality health information
3. Apply intervention toolkits method
4. Counter misinformation and disinformation
5. Monitor for environment and responses
6. Support healthy behaviors and resilience to misinformation at
individual, community and societal levels
