women, so that they get a more honorable

                            position.
Minang adat which adheres to a

matrilineal family system, where a person's

lineage is drawn from the mother's side, has
raised the social position of women. He is very

respected and becomes the central point, because
in his house his children and husband live, and at

the same time acts as a mediator between the
husband and his own family, namely the mamak

and the head of the children. In the place where

the deliberations are held, he maintains the
emotions and relationships of the two forces that

influence each other between mamak and father.
So the mother is a very decisive figure in the

family, therefore it is the mother who is the main
educator in adat because emotionally a mother is

                            closer to the child.

Mother (woman) in custom is called
bundo kanduang which means true mother. True

means a mother who truly has motherhood and

leadership in the midst of the family. He is highly
                            respected both structurally and normatively
