Mamangan above shows that customs lead people
to learn at any time and last a lifetime, in today's term "lifelong
education" it means more to live, think and fight anywhere. This is
stated by the adat doctrine in the following mamangan:
Good luck mancaliek, nan manang,
maliek is an example, right?
you are a real senior,
nature takambang to be a teacher. 141
140 Rifa'i Yogi, Minang Literature, p. 18, which means: If you sit down
to grind mines, if you stand looking far ahead, your back is counting the
rafters, walking to pick up your profits, your leaning is counting the walls,
your stomach is counting the floors, the day is divided by four, and the night is
divided by three.
141 Idrus Hakimy, Mustika Series, p. 43, which means: Seeing luck for
those who have won (successful), seeing examples of those who have,
imitating the real, nature takambang becomes a teacher.
