Procedures
1. Explain the procedure
2. Wash hands
3. Assemble the necessary equipment
4. Put on glove
5. Clean the site with an antiseptic swab
6. Prick the site with a lancet
7. Collect a drop of blood on the glass slide
8. Spread the drop of blood along with the slide(smearing)
9. Try to work quickly so as not to allow clothing on the slide
10. Give alcohol for the client to apply pressure to the site
11. Return used equipment and wash hand
12. Proper documentation
NB: While smearing doesn't use the sharp edge to avoid scratching of slide

Use safety box
Blood should never be taken from the IV line or above an existing line
Use personal protective equipment
