Procedure
1. Wash hands
2. Wear necessary personal protective equipment
3. Separate wastes based on their level of infection
Noninfectious (Black color code): Presents no risk. Examples: paper, packaging materials,
office supplies, drink containers, hand towels, boxes, glass, plastic bottles, and food.
Infectious (Yellow color code): Contaminated with human blood and can spread disease.
Examples: gauze, cotton, dressings, laboratory cultures, IV fluid lines, blood bags, gloves,
anatomical waste, and pharmaceutical waste.
Sharps waste (Safety box, needle remover, or other puncture-resistant and leak-
resistant sharps containers): Syringes and needles should be discarded without recapping.
