Centennial Update
Honor . . . Renew . . . Serve
Dear Sojourners, Heroes, and Camp Followers,
I am humbled and honored to have been elected to serve as your National Commander for our Centennial
Year. Of course, the greatest honor and challenge is that this is our Centennial Celebration. It is very
exciting to have begun the celebration of our 100 Years of Service at our Annual National Convention and
Encampment in Atlanta. We have been preparing for this celebration for several years, and I applaud our
Centennial Committee for their tireless effort throughout this process. They have accomplished so much,
and now we are prepared to execute our plan. I highly encourage you to get on our National Sojourners Web
®
Site (nationalsojourners.org) and explore the Tool Kit located in the Heroes of ’76 Centennial Section. That
has so much great information and guidance for you to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
We are just beginning our Area Conference and Encampments (AC&E), and I encourage every Area
Representative to host one, and for every Hero to attend. It would be wonderful to revitalize those Camps
which have not been active and to charter a Camp in those Chapters without one, to honor this Centennial
Year. I stand ready to assist any way I can in those endeavors. You will also find in the Tool Kit, starting on
Page 30, a listing of all the Areas along with a suggested Encampment name you may choose to use to
honor a founding member, famous Sojourner or Hero of ’76, or a distinguished national-level figure in the
history of our Nation. I encourage our Area/Regional Representatives to use the names provided or a
suitable substitute to make this year’s AC&Es special.
I look forward to visiting every AC&E and to share the followship with our membership. This is a very
special year and each of you have a part in making it memorable. Be safe, stay healthy, and stay engaged
with your Chapter and Camp. Let us join together to rededicate ourselves to Fostering Patriotism
through Service in our Centennial Year!
