Transmission axle-universal joint
Overhaul

1. remove the transmission axle (refer to “chapter 33 transmission axle-transmission axle
assembly, replacement”)
2. disassemble the universal joint of sliding
yoke
(a). Make matchmarks on the flange yoke,
cross shaft and sliding yoke.

(b). Remove the grease nipple.
Notice:
Be careful during the disassembly and don’t
damage the grease nipple.

(c). Remove the retainer ring with circlip
pliers.

(d). Slightly knock on the sliding yoke with a
hammer and a copper rod, vibrate out the
needle bearing and the dust cover from the
outside of the sliding yoke and the flange
yoke and remove the cross shaft.
Notice:
Don’t knock on the transmission axle directly
or clamp it directly with a bench screw.

(e). Separate the sliding yoke and the flange yoke.

3. disassemble the universal joint of the intermediate transmission axle
Hint:
The steps for the disassembly of the universal joint of intermediate transmission axle are the same with those
for the universal joint of sliding yoke.
4. Disassemble the transmission axle universal joint of rear axle
HINT:
The steps for the disassembly of the transmission axle universal joint of rear axle are the same with
those for the universal joint of sliding yoke.
