Transmission axle-universal joint
(d). Inspect the clearance between the needle
bearing and the universal joint fork with a
dial indicator.
• Place the needle bearing in the
mounting hole of the universal joint,
move the needle bearing in the radial
direction and measure the clearance
between the needle bearing and the
universal joint fork.
Clearance between the needle bearing
and the universal joint fork:
Vehicle Torque
1051 series 0.29~0.61 mm
1061 series 0.32~0.58 mm
1089 series 0.15~0.40 mm
If the clearance is beyond the limit range, replace
with a new needle bearing.
(e). Inspect the axial clearance of the cross
shaft with a dial indicator.
• Set the needle bearing on the cross
shaft, place the universal joint in the
mounting hole, move the cross shaft in
radial direction and measure the axial
clearance of the cross shaft.
Axial clearance of the cross shaft: ≤ 0.25 mm
If the clearance is beyond the limit range, replace 33
with new cross shaft and needle bearing.

6. ASSEMBLE THE UNIVERSAL JOINT OF SLIDING YOKE
(a). Apply appropriate amount of lubricating grease on the surfaces of the cross shaft and needle bearing.
• If too much lubricating grease is applied, the difficulty of assembly will be increased.
Lubricating grease: Lithium Grease No. 2
(b). Knock on the needle bearing slightly with
a rubber hammer, install it into the ear hole
from the outside of the flange yoke and the
sliding yoke and install the cross shaft at
the same time.
• A new needle bearing must be
replaced with.
• Dust cover must be installed at the
same time.
Caution:
The installation must be carried out in
accordance with the matchmarks made before.
Hint:
Notice the direction of the cross shaft grease
nipple and make it have the same direction with
other cross shaft grease nipples so as to fill
lubricating grease.
