Diagnose- ABS system
Reading and Clearing a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)
1. Malfunction is ABS failure detected by ABS control unit and stored in memory. A
system malfunction can be either actual or stored.
(a) Actual malfunction: currently exists in ABS (e.g. left front wheel sensor line broken). An
actual malfunction must be repaired, otherwise it can not be cleared from memory and nor
can other malfunctions continue to be shown.
(b) Stored malfunction: comes in two ways.
• A repaired malfunction that has not been cleared from ABS control unit yet.
• A malfunction that has ever appeared but no longer exists (e.g. poor wire contact).
There is no need to repair it before it is cleared from memory because a stored
malfunction is not an actual one.
2. Using flashes of ASR (ABS) blink code indicator light to read DTC
04 (a) Ignition switch: ON.
(b) Press and hold ABS diagnostic switch
for 1-3 seconds and then release it.
Tip:
• In the case of a current malfunction, the
ABS control unit will show it by means
of flash; if more malfunctions exist, the
latest detected one will be shown by
means of blink code flashes. As long as
it is an actual malfunction, ASR (ABS)
blink code indicator light will flash to
show it repeatedly.
• If no current malfunction exists, the last
4 memorized malfunctions will be shown
in reverse order (i.e. the last found one is
flashed first) only once.
(c) Refer to flash modes of DTCs 7-1 and 4-2 in the following figure.
