Chapter 3
RETENTION, ELIMINATION, DISMISSAL,
LEAVE OF ABSENCE AND CROSS ENROLMENT
1. RETENTION
a. A student who fails in any major nursing subject for the first time shall take the same
subject in the next school year.
b. A student who fails in the general education subjects shall also take the subjects
during the next semester or summer of the following year.
c. A student who fails the same nursing subject twice shall be automatically dismissed
from the nursing program.
d. A student who incurs a grade of below 75 in more than 75% of the total load or units
for the semester shall be automatically dismissed from the program.
e. A student who fails 25-49% of the total load or units for the semester shall be
subjected to a 3-unit reduction of load in the next semester and is on a warning status.
f. A student who fails 50-75% of the total load or units for the semester is on a
probationary status and shall be reloaded six units.
2. Elimination and Dismissal
a. Grounds for elimination from the College are the same as those provided for the ISU Student
Handbook and other cases recommended by the Disciplinary Board and approved by the Dean
of The College of Nursing.
b. A student who gets below 3.0 as a final grade in all his/her academic units shall be
permanently disqualified from readmission.
c. A student is permanently disqualified from the College if he fails in all his academic courses,
except those given 5.0 for unofficial dropping of courses.
d. Students in a four-year degree course are allowed not more than five academic years from the
start of the undergraduate work. Those in a five-year course are allowed only six academic
years to complete the degree program. The maximum residence rule shall cover the period
when the student is on leave of absence. Only one year is given as an extension for students
who will graduate in the same semester.
e. A student who drops out and leaves out from the nursing program shall not be allowed for
readmission.
f. Students failed twice in the same major subject will not be admitted in the college. He/She will
be advised to take another course
3. Leave of Absence
a. A student who decides to withdraw from a class or all his classes due to prolonged absence for
a good or valid cause must file an application for leave of absence in order to get an honorable
dismissal and does not forfeit the privilege to reenroll in the College.
b. Other rules and regulations pertaining to leave of absence in the ISU Student Handbook shall
be followed.
Shifting to another Course/College
A student may shift/transfer to another curriculum in the same or another college or unit
provided:
1. He/She satisfied all the entrance requirements of the Curriculum.
2. He/She is not under dismissal status due to scholastic delinquency.
