But I was fast, fast as lightning fast, and had absolutely
no fear. (This lightning speed remains today in my older
life as I can lay testimony that I am still lightning fast but
now only over 1.5m.) Then both my hamstrings tear and
I can’t walk for 8 weeks.

My younger days were all about playing football and at 6
years old I joined an amateur Sunday Social football club

called Daggafontein FC. Ironically, “Dagga” is another
name for pot or marijuana and fontein is well another
name for fountain so I played for “Marijuana Fountain
FC”.

I received many accolades as a youngster - my greatest
achievement was being the Under-10 player of the year.
This was one of the best ever moments in my life.

I did start off as a defender with the nickname “Killer” as

I was the slide-tackling king with grass burns on either
thigh every Sunday morning and I took no prisoners as
the saying goes. This was part and parcel of my lightning
speed of course.

The Sunday morning games were always filled with
moms and dads cheering and screaming like banshees
