tongues as the spirit enabled them” (Acts 2:1-4).
The people at that time, who received the power of the
Holy Spirit, were not a special group of people. Yes, they
did gather at Mark’s upper room by risking their own lives
as a small group of people professing Jesus, but they weren’t
prophets or a seer. They were just a common group of
people, but the Holy Spirit manifested to those gathered in
that place. Isn’t this amazing?
Though, in the time of the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit
did manifest itself to certain indi-viduals, resulting in the
power of the gift. There was a time when the Holy Spirit
manifested itself to King Saul, who did not know anything
but war.
“When they arrived at Gibeah, a procession of prophets
met him; the spirit of God came upon him in power, and he
joined in their prophesying” (1 Samuel 10:10).
At that time, King Saul was obsessed with killing David,
who had not sinned against him. He wanted to kill David by
any means necessary, thinking that his throne would be made
secure with it.
