available resources and constraints facing the organisation.
Moreover, recognising which problems are core problems,

or long-term problems is an essential feature of case
analysis. It is essential to distinguish between symptoms of
the major problems and the major problems themselves.

A symptom is an indication that something in the case is not
as is expected. Symptoms are therefore, indicators of

problems and the focus of analysis should be on identifying
the causes of the problem rather than on its symptoms.
However, recognising symptoms should lead to problem

identification so list all those indicators that show

something is wrong or unexpected in the case.
