Newspapers and other conventional media sources are not left out. Most employers still
use them to advertise job vacancies. Listen to the news on Radio and Television and read
newspapers. Important job announcements are routed through these means.
The social media is now a leading platform for information dissemination, and
employers use it to advertise job openings. Some of the social media platforms also serve
as professional career pool sites where employers do not just visit to advertise but look
up the profile of a prospective job seeker. Make sure you create a profile on platforms like
LinkedIn, Indeed.com, Facebook et cetera. That way, in a few clicks, anyone can easily
get to know who you are and what you do.
You can cold-call a company or an organization to make enquiry about job vacancies.
There is no crime in it. The worst that can happen is to get a ‘No’ response. People have
gotten job placement through unsolicited Curriculum Vitae submissions and cold calling.
You can try it too. You can make a physical visit to make enquiries to an organization you
want to work for. The front desk officer, customer care or HR department will be willing
to get you all your answers. You do not commit any offence by doing that.
Speak to your colleagues, family members and other professionals in your circle of
influence. Someone may know something or know someone who knows or have what
you need. One of the things you should do is build reliable professional networks. Your
network is a great asset and part of your net-worth. Do not exist as an island, relate with
people, go where the jobs are, seek information and use technology to your advantage.
The truth is, ‘your job is not far away if you are actively searching where they are.’
