other. The employer is at liberty to use the best means suitable to achieve this. However,
the overall objective is to evaluate the candidate from different perspectives: his/her
personality, communication skill, subject command, judgment, honesty, integrity,
tolerance, patience, politeness, promptness etc. The various means employed for
personal interviews include Telephonic, Teleconferencing, chatting through the Internet
and Face to face interaction which is the most usual form of personal interview. In face to
face interview, you are made to interact with the interview board and answer questions
from them. A chairperson heads the interview board, assisted by other members of the
board drawn from senior officers from the same organization or experts from outside.
In group discussion interviews, small groups are created to discuss on any specific topic.
This way, the employer can judge the communication, leadership, and other qualities of
the candidate during the discussion. In other variants, the employer can monitor the
candidates’ performance sitting in the discussion room or through a close circuit
television. This process is like teleconferencing where the employer observes the process
from a distance or even from a foreign country.
Physical/Medical Fitness: Certain categories of jobs like the Military, Police, Fire,
Prison, Forest guards, Tour guides, Immigration, Customs, and other Paramilitary
services need some level of agility. There is the need to evaluate the physical and medical
fitness of the prospective candidates. A physical or medical fitness test therefore
becomes essential in the selection of the right candidates. You may not be selected if you
have any form of medical condition capable of affecting your performance or other
personnel around you in the discharge of your duties.
