the organization and read. If you are able to lay your hands on information about their
revenues, the performance of its major products in the market, staff strength etc., please,
get to know these things very well. It is not bad if you get to speak to a friend, a senior
employee or one or two persons who know much about the company. The more
information you have, the better for you.
In addition, research you job roles or read it all over again from the job brochure. Get
familiar with the competencies, skills and other requirements expected of your role in
the organization if employed. You cannot escape questions from this area. Please learn
all you need to know.
Some organizations prefer to conduct a brief weeding test before an oral interview, or
what they call an interview may include a written test. Interviews for some medical jobs
like the medical laboratory scientists often involve a third session call ‘Spotting.’ You are
expected to examine an equipment or a part of an equipment, state its name, uses and/or
maintenance. It varies. Find out about the nature of the interview and prepare
accordingly. You cannot over prepare; it is safe to know all you need to know than resolve
to guess-work when they ask you.
Ensure you have a good sleep a night before your interview. Select the cloth you want to
wear, get the address of the venue right and decide on your route. If possible, visit the
place a day before the interview to be familiar with the road. Be in your best mood. Try to
put all your worries aside for that moment and concentrate on your interview. You may
pick up whatever worries you have later. Go there with confidence and a valid means of
identification. Put all your documents and certificates including the call letter for the
interview in a folder. They may ask you to provide proof of invitation or identification
before allowing you in. Do not be caught unawares.
Reflection
“The first thing you should do when you get the invitation SMS, Email
or phone call is to take note of all the details.”
