Developer/Contractor for smooth operation of the machinery and equipment
installed by them.
Arrangement of Water, Sewage and Electricity required for the project will be the
responsibility of the Corporation. However, the cost of consumption shall be paid
by the Contractor as per actual usage based on appropriate meter readings from
the meters installed.
5.1.4 BIOMINING ACTIVITIES AND OPERATION
Excavation of the existing mixed compacted garbage which underwent biological
degradation in the land portion allocated/ earmarked in the planning stage. An
1
excavator of power 70 to 90 HP with bucket capacity of 1 to 1.5 cum may be used
for excavation work. The number of excavators shall depend upon the volume of
waste, capacity of the processing machinery and timeline of the work.
The excavator shall either transfer the waste in the dumper truck or place the waste in
the form of stock piles. If the processing machinery is located distantly, transfer of
waste has to be done using dumper truck. A dumper truck of 4 to 6 cu.m capacity
shall be used for waste transfer. The dumper truck shall unload the waste closer to
the processing machinery. A front end loader shall be used to feed the waste into
hopper for further processing. The power of front end loader may be in the range 70
to 90 HP.
A setup involving a conveyor and a trommel for segregating the excavated material into
oversized, under sized and intermediate portion is the key step in any biomining
operation. The undersized fine fraction generally consists of decomposed organic
matter, soil and humus etc., oversized matter is composed of metals, textiles, rubber
and plastics, intermediate sized fraction is made up of combustible materials, recyclable
materials and decomposed organic matter upto some extent. Ferrous metals are
generally taken off the stream by deploying a magnetic separator and an air classifier
arrangement is put in place to separate the non-ferrous metallic portion, leaving behind
combustible fraction from the waste.
The size and type of screen depend on the end use of the recovered material. The
efficiency of the material recovery is largely governed by the waste composition, mining
technology and the efficiency of the segregation technology.
1. The screening process is explained in the following points:-The excavated waste
shall be dumped in the hopper using the front end loader.
2. The waste from hopper is fed onto a slow-moving (5 m per minute) conveyor belt.
Items not suitable for the trommel, such as glass bottle, metal container, any
hazardous material like containers of paint, etc. are taken out by hand and put in
appropriate bins. The workers should be provided with gloves to avoid injury. The
thickness of the moving waste pile on the conveyor belt should be less than 15
cm (for better manual sorting) and the removed material stored in segregated
