Why study the Passover?
1. Jesus kept the Passover feast. He walked 75 miles from Galilee to Jerusalem
each year. Remember Exodus.
2. The night before Jesus died he took Passover bread and wine with his disciples,
“Do this in remembrance of me.”
3. Jesus was the Passover Lamb, sacrificed for us.
Purge out the Leaven
1. The house is sterilised, freed from all leaven, yeast.
Leaven/yeast is a symbol in the OT of sin.
Found in cakes, biscuits, bread
2. Father hides the crumbs around the house, children find the crumbs and they are
burnt (1 Corinthians 5:7-8). cf Josiah in 2 Kings 23:22-23
White Linen
1. Symbol of righteousness – Revelation 19:7-8
White tablecloth, white candles, father wears white robe (kittel), white crown
Special white dishes not used at any other time of the year.
2. Father symbolises the risen Christ.
Lighting candles
1. Done by the women
2. Symbolic of Jesus as the light of the world, born of a woman.
The First Cup
Cup of Sanctification – father blesses preparations, table and wine.
