AMAZING ADJECTIVES

¾ Adjectives are describing words which give more information about the noun.
¾ To review and extend work on adjectives.
¾ Comparative adjectives are used when comparing two things and superlative
adjectives are used when comparing three or more things.
¾ Some adjectives have irregular comparative and superlative forms.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review previous lessons.
2. Draw a plus sign, a syringe and a gift box on the board and ask the children if
they can guess which kind of words are to be reviewed (adjectives).

3. Pass around a bag of interesting objects for each child to find adjectives to
describe. If there are a large number of children in the class, this could be
done in pairs or small groups. Remind them that colours, numbers, feelings,
size and appearance of nouns are described by adjectives.
4. When reading, encourage the children to look for the nouns (or pronouns) in
sentences then identify the words/adjectives that provide more information
about the nouns (or pronouns).
E.g. I am tired. Jane is nine. You are thirsty.
5. Ask the children to think of some describing words/adjectives ending in ‘less’
or ‘ful’ or ‘y’. Give examples of words being made into adjectives, e.g. juice
juicy.
