Exodus 3:14 ‘God said to Moses, “I AM THAT I AM ….”’

¾ Review verbs as doing and being words.

¾ Review ‘being’ verbs

¾ Introduce first, second and third persons – I/we, you, he/she/it/they

Way to Work (Means)

1. Review the previous lesson

2. Remind the children about the above verse referred to in Y3. God is present,
past and future.

3. Have a table with three columns drawn on the board so that the children can
help to fill in the past, present and future tenses of the verb ‘to be’.

I was I am I will be

You were You are You will be
He was He is He will be
She was She is She will be
It was It is It will be
We were We are We will be

You were You are You will be
They were They are They will be

4. Remind the children that the verb ‘to be’ is often seen with other verbs, e.g. He

was walking home. It is approaching now. She will be sleeping by then.

5. The verb also enables people to express their feelings, e.g. I am tired. They
are excited.

Let the children suggest examples.
