The texts, videos, and pictures are designed to facilitate students to learn
the meaningful themes and aspects of their cultures. Some of these materials are
adapted from the Internet websites that indicate cultural contents. Text adaptation
is done by considering the experts and lecturers‘ suggestion and recommendation.
Most of the time adaptation results in model texts that are simpler containing
valuable contents. Below is an example of text adaptation.
Gendang Beleq is played for wedding ceremonies in Sasak community. It is called
Gendang Beleq because it has a meaning ‘big drum’. The big drum should be played by
someone who has a big and strong body and has Sasak skill dance.
Lombok has a traditional music for wedding ceremonies. It is called Gendang

2) Comparison between Local and Foreign Cultures
The IBLL materials provide topics that are concerned with comparison
between local and foreign cultures. In the example of the topic of wedding
ceremony, students are directed to compare between their own cultures and the
target cultures. Below is an example.
First, using this cultural topic of girl kidnapping in the Lombok wedding
tradition, students discuss the kidnapping process in the Sasak wedding. In the end
of discussion, students are expected to write some sentences related to the
kidnaping topic. This can be done individually or in groups.
