Dear Mr. Bloomberg:
I am writing to thank you and Bloomberg Philanthropies for the scholarship
award I received.
Please allow me the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Mackenzie D. Ellsberry (M)
and I am a member of the Morehouse School of Medicine MD Class of 2024. I am originally
from Detroit, Michigan, and I graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with a
Bachelor of Science in the spring of 2016. Mr. Mike Bloomberg himself was our
commencement speaker. I am still very early in my medical school journey, but I am strongly
leaning toward specializing in emergency medicine or some form of surgery.
I am also a member of the recently formed Morehouse School of Medicine Black Men in White
Coats chapter. Our organization’s mission is to (1) increase the visibility of Black men in
medicine and (2) to provide mentorship opportunities to Black men in earlier stages of their
medical careers, whether they are still in high school or college. Your generous gift will
help me and my fellow Morehouse School of Medicine Black Men in White Coats brothers to
fulfill our mission and positively shape the future landscape of medicine so that it is more
diverse and we are better prepared to tackle the challenges of Black health disparities.
Thank you very much for your generous gift.
Sincerely,
Mackenzie D. Ellsberry
