fifty seconds in a platoon competition, stripping and assembling, loading,
running ten yards, and firing the Bren. Our one serious casualty in
camp was Cadet Paroz, who suffered from U.R.T.I. on the last day of
camp and was removed to Yeronga Base Hospital.
Remarks passed by both the public and army personnel indicate
that the unit compares more than favourably with average first year
cadets in all its activities. A great deal of praise goes to our Company-
Sergeant-Major, Stuart Napier, who, without previous training, has
handled his work with a keenness and capability which would be hard
to match anywhere.
With over two-thirds of the original cadets returning in 1957 the
unit promises to become one of the most efficient in the brigade. The
establishment of our own Pipe Band complete with side and bass drums,
will make us an almost entirely self-contained unit.
At the open Range Shoot at Enoggera on September 29, U./O.
Mitchell achieved the remarkable score of 99 points out of a possible
100.
UNIT PIPE BAND
We greatly appreciate the kindness of Mr. and Mrs. Hannah in
making their home available for the training of our Tuesday afternoon
Chanter Squad.
The class is conducted by their son, Mr. W. Hannah, a member of
St. Andrew’s Pipe Band, and without whose services our Band project
would have been well nigh impossible.
We are happy to report that the Band is gradually taking shape
and by the beginning of next year should certainly be making its
presence heard.
