                          Q.S.S.S.S.A. CARNIVAL
Was it the new athletics uniform or was it the outstanding success
of our female speedsters that overawed the masculine section of the
school team when it competed in the 10th Annual Q.S.S.S.S.A. Inter
           school Athletics Competition ?
However, although we registered only 19 points we were by no means
disgraced. Excellent performances were registered by Arnis Klaikalietis
who won the Open Shot Putt and by R. Love who came second in the
Under Sixteen Shot Putt. S. Loynes acquitted himself well to gain
third place in the Under Sixteen Broad Jump.
Other good performances were put up by S. Loynes in the Under
Sixteen 220 yards, first place in his heat, S. Robinson with a first in
a heat of the Under Sixteen 440 yards, W. Davies, a sixth in the Open
Mile (considering it was his first attempt and that the existing record
was broken by 11.8 seconds). P. Monks and S. Napier reached the finals
of the Open 220 yards and 100 yards, respectively. Our relay teams
performed particularly well by reaching the finals in all three divisions.
Although they tried hard our high jumpers were not of the usual high
standard owing perhaps to the fact that competition from other schools
           was too keen.
The Q.A.A.A. holds the Annual Schoolboy Championships in October.
This meeting embraces all Brisbane schools and this provides really
stiff opposition. Several of our athletes competed last year and one win
