                                   CRICKET
The school entered two teams—one A Grade and one B Grade—
in the State Secondary Schools’ competition. Three matches were
played in February and March; two more matches are to be played in
September and October to complete the competition. The matches played
           have resulted as follows :

                       INDIVIDUAL HONOURS IN B GRADE.
           Batsman showing most promise—E. Taylor.
Batsmen showing most improvement—T. Lewis, S. Stanley.
Bowlers showing most promise—J. Crammond, S. Stanley, R. Buzacott.
           Best fieldsman—T. Lewis.
Wet weather curtailed the playing time of all matches from two-day
to one-day games, and with batting time reduced to li hours per innings
it was a case of “hitting out” to score as many runs as possible in that
time. It was a disappointment to have to play this type of cricket as
the improvement in stroke play derived from the practice wickets and
nets installed in 1955 could not be ascertained. Nevertheless the nets
have increased the number of students participating in the game during
non-school periods with the result that more interest is being shown in
           this particular branch of sport.
The introduction this year of Inter-House fixtures should assist
greatly in increasing the number of students able to participate in
competition play as well as adding further interest in the game.
The Inter-House fixtures played have resulted as follows :—
               Griffith v. Lilley : Griffith 131 (Buzacott 35; Ament 2 for 9); Lilley
           136 (Drew 27, Ament 37; Crammond 8 for 63).
               Wentworth v. Lilley : Wentworth 116 (Gray 47; Drew 3 for 25);
           Lilley 126 (Banney 22 not out, Taylor 20; Gray 4 for 33, Love 3 for 34).
Wentworth v. Griffith : To be played at a later date.

                                BASKETBALL
We again competed in the G.P.S. and State Secondary School
Basketball fixtures. This year, owing to the increased number of teams
competing in the State Secondary fixtures, zones were formed. Wynnum
was included along with Commercial, Salisbury and Cavendish Road in
the South Zone. Two matches were to be played against each school,
but owing to weather and other circumstances we were unable to
complete our fixtures. The “A” team proved successful against Caven
dish Road, but the “B” was narrowly beaten. Commercial kept up
their brilliant record and easily defeated both teams. We congratulate
them for their well earned win.
In the G.P.S. fixtures we played St. Peter’s, Clayfield College and
