PORTS REVIEW
SPORT at Wynnuni High has always
received at least its share of prom
inence and the 1959 season will go down
as a record for the variety of activities
Sportsmaster offered.
We began our year well by literally
taking the plunge at the Langlands
Park Olympic pool for our Annual
Swimming Carnival. The cricket sea
son has been a successful one. It was
the first year in which our noys have
competed in the “A” grade competition
on turf wickets.
This year we had more boys playing
inter-school football than ever before,
but the response was due more to the
excellent work done by the staff than
to the zeal of the boys as a whole.
Our boys, including Form VI,
would do well to appreciate the
splendid work done by the staff on
the playing fields—a more zealous
band of workers would be hard to
find.
Our athletics year has just drawn to
a close and we have enjoyed, among
other events, the experience of a 4-way
Carnival with other secondary schools.
We have commenced, for the first
time, inter-house matches in High
School soccer and hockey and much in
terest was displayed by the boys. An
other innovation has been the forma
tion of a golf squad which receives in
struction at the Wynnum Golf Club.
A large group of both boys and girls
travels to local courts to play tennis
on Wednesday afternoons. We at
tempted to run coaching classes for all
interested but the response was poor.
