they were not quite able to match the slightly superior standard set
down by the other two Houses.
Ken Lindley gained third place in the open 100 yards.
Ken Ede won the under 16 dive, Ken Lindley gained third place in
the open 440 yards, and W. Szymanowski was third in the boys’ open
100 yards.
Once again this year the girls “A” basketball team was captained
by a Lilley girl, Barbara Arnold. Pam Burnett, Beverly Brown, Lyn
Edwards, and Lyn Allen, were all Lilley representatives in teams and
all five of these girls (and there were only six chosen from Wynnum)
were selected to play in the team which played the Queensland’s
Women’s Basketball team.
Some matches in Inter-House cricket were played while the school
team was playing inter-school fixtures in town. This was unfortunate
for Lilley House as seven members of our House are in the School. They
are Trevor Lewis, captain of the team, Ian Hastings, Ian Ament, Alan
Lentz, Graham Johnston, Terry Wickens and Cliff Austin. Although we
were thoroughly beaten in Inter-House cricket, everyone enjoyed the
matches immensely. No Inter-House tennis matches were played, but
we were well represented in all inter-school teams. Lyn Stratton,
Veronica Woods, and Judith Cafferky represented Lilley House in the
girls’ "A” team, and David Banney and Ted Johnstone represented us in
the boys’ “A” team.
We were well represented in all inter-school football teams, but only
one Inter-House match (Griffith—Wentworth) was played.
The athletics carnival saw "Lilley well and truly outclassed, although
enthusiasm shown by all of our House was certainly not lacking.
‘ Our best athlete was Warren Black who won the minor champion
ship. Bruce Fleming from the Intermediate won the under 14 high
jump. Alan Lenz won the open shot putt, and Laurie Molyneux won
the under 16 shot putt. Trevor Lewis gave a creditable performance
in the circular events.
The cross country was held soon after sports day and once again
this event was won by Lilley House.
So far we have contested seven Inter-House discussions out of which
we have won one and drawn one.
In conclusion, we would like to thank those teachers who have
assisted us in many ways throughout the year, particularly our House
master and House mistress, and Mr. Hazell who is chiefly responsible for
the organisation of our sports carnival.

This year Wentworth House has been unable to win a major sporting
cup, but finished second to Griffith House in both the swimming and

competition.
