HIGH SCHOOL 8 STONE RUNNERS-UP.
This year under the coaching of Mr. O’Mara and the captaincy and
vice-captaincy of John Burnett and Alan Apps, the under 8st. team
was extremely unlucky to be runners-up and not premiers in the
competition.
Our first game of the season, against Mitchelton, resulted in our
winning by 21-0. Our next game was with Industrial and we won 28-0.
Against Salisbury we had our worst luck of the season when we were
defeated 16-11. After trailing 11-3 at half-time we picked up well, but
not quite enough to secure a draw. Our game against Banyo was the
toughest of the season and we finished up by drawing nil-all. We then
played Camp Hill and won 17-0. Our second last game was with
Indooroopilly, which resulted in an 18-3 win for Wynnum. Our final
game was against Kedron and the scores were very close. We emerged
victorious, however, by winning 3-0.
On our trip to Nambour we had a very good time on the way there
and also had a very close game against Nambour’s Under 8st. team.
We were really quite lucky to win 12-9.
The highest point-scorer for the season was Jack Stobert, who
scored 50 points, a really fine performance. Brian Johnson scored 24
points. Louis Amiet scored 15 points, while Alan Apps, John Burnett
and Barry Reading scored 3 points each.
With the players of the Intermediate 6st. l0lbs. premiers, and some
of the High School runners-up still under 8 stone. Mr. O’Mara looks
like having a good team next season.
Team results: Won 5, drawn 1, lost 1. Points: For 98. against 19.
