                                CRICKET
Although the standard of cricket at our school has not been good
in previous years, many were surprised to find that this year our first
team was relegated to the "B” grade competition played on concrete
        wickets.
Considering the fact that some of our best players do not take part
in the competition owing to excessive and inconvenient travel with late
home arrivals, we have performed extremely well in this year’s “B”
grade competition by winning most convincingly the two matches so far
        played.
Our batsmen apparently are more at home on the concrete wickets
as Wynnum’s scores were nine for 218 (declared) and five for 206
(declared). The outstanding batsmen were I. Ament 66 and 48, R. Close
        40, T. Lewis 37, A. Lentz 55 and J. Crammond 53.
The team’s bowlers played their part with distinction by dismissing
Salisbury in the first match for 116 and six for 155, and Cavendish Road
in the second match for 68 and eight for 121, the best performances
        being A. Lentz 4/39, R. Buzacott 3/27 and 2/13, I. Ament 2/0, 2/13
        and 5/29, H. Austin 3/8 and 3/30.
Leading the competition at this stage with three games to play,
the boys are confident of winning the Pennant.
We thank Mr. Peacock for the time he has spent in coaching
the team, and Trevor Lewis for his excellent captaincy.
A “B” grade Inter-House competition was commenced this year
and with a limit of 25 overs to an innings has resulted in very bright
and spirited batting. At the end of the first round the points are :
           Griffith 8; Wentworth 5; Lilley 2.
Summary of all matches played is as under :
                                  “B” GRADE
           Wynnum v. Salisbury: Wynnum 9/213 dec. (I. Ament 66, R. Close

        Lentz 8-2-33-1, I. Ament 3-0-28-1. P. Bond 1-0-9-1) by 102 on first
