         (a) Ease of ignition - e.g, cellular material content ,
         (b) Rate of burning - wood shavings,
         (c) Materials that encourage other materials to

              burn - oxidising agents and
         (d) Hindrance to fire fighting - Sulphur.

When the amount of heat that a building has to cope
with is established, it becomes necessary to decide the
type of construction needed for that particular fire load.
So ,here it becomes necessary to know the fire
resistance of various materials. The fire resistance of
materials are classified as under :
(a) Class I - 4 hours fire resistance,

(b) Class II - 3 hours fire resistance,

(c) Class III - 2 hours fire resistance and

(d) Class IV - 1 hour fire resistance.

In practice, however buildings are constructed on the
basis of functionality, and conventional methods of
constructions are used.. While considering the hazards
of construction, the components of external wall and
roof are usually considered.
