MULTIFAMILY EXPERIENCE
LA MESITA FAMILY SHELTER
The La Mesita Family Shelter project, built for La Mesita Apartments, LP, included the
demolition of existing residential living space and utility structures, relocation of utility
easements, and the new construction of a low income housing complex located in Mesa,
Arizona. The complex includes three four-story buildings totalling 94,000 square feet
and houses 80 multifamily units and commercial-use areas. The housing complex was
constructed with concrete footing foundation, a wood and steel structural frame, metal
panel and stucco exterior, and a membrane roof with metal panel accents. The project also
featured site work consisting of parking areas, roadways, landscaping, playground structures,
community gardens, and a splash pad. This project achieved LEED Platinum Certification for
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design from the U.S. Green Building Council for
sustainable construction practices and energy efficiency. Due to CORE’s construction efforts,
the La Mesita Family Shelter project provides affordable housing and services to individuals
and families with low and moderate incomes in the community of East Mesa.
